Airport operations resume in Sochi, following a three-day suspension
In an update from the press service of Gelendzhik Airport, it has been announced that the temporary flight restrictions that were imposed on August 8 have been lifted as of August 10, 2025. The restrictions were put in place due to regional safety concerns, with reports of drone attacks and explosions in nearby Sochi and the Krasnodar region causing temporary shutdowns and limitations at several southern Russian airports.
On August 10, the Federal Air Transport Agency confirmed the lifting of the time restrictions at Gelendzhik Airport, with a flight operated by S7 Airlines arriving at 10:34 Moscow time, marking the resumption of flights after the temporary suspension. Similar restrictions at other airports, such as Sochi and Kaluga, were also lifted around the same time.
As a result, Gelendzhik Airport is now operating without the flight restrictions that were briefly imposed earlier in August. However, it is unclear how these restrictions may have impacted flight schedules or passenger numbers. It is also worth noting that Sochi Airport, which had been operating with restrictions on takeoff and landing for the previous three days, has now resumed full operations as of August 10.
Despite the lifting of restrictions, it is possible that some flight schedules may experience slight changes due to existing restrictions in other Russian airports. All flights at Gelendzhik Airport are being carried out in accordance with the established order and the readiness of the aircraft. It is currently unclear whether the restrictions at Gelendzhik Airport have caused any disruptions to travel plans or services.
For the latest updates and information, travellers are advised to check with their airlines or the airport's official website.
