Arts Recognition for Barbara Baier and Peter Rothenbücher in Cultural Field
Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize Honours Peter Rothenbuecher and Barbara Baier
The city of Bayreuth recently awarded the prestigious Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize to Peter Rothenbuecher and Barbara Baier. The annual award, which recognises exceptional achievements in music, literature, painting, the visual arts, and science, has been presented since 1976.
Peter Rothenbuecher, a prominent figure in the city, was honoured for his contributions to the renovation of Schlossanlagen Birken and Carolinenruhe/Colmdorf. Along with his family, Rothenbuecher initiated the restoration of these historic castle complexes. The Baroque garden of Schloss Carolinenruhe, which has previously hosted the award ceremony for the Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize, was the venue for this year's event.
Barbara Baier, the leader of the renowned Zamir Choir, received the award for her work that has enhanced Bayreuth's regional reputation and fostered German-Israeli relations. Baier has collaborated with Israeli singers and musicians, contributing to a stronger cultural exchange between the two nations.
Thomas Ebersberger, the mayor of Bayreuth, presented the award. Gil Klemperer, a long-time member of the Zamir Choir and organizer of the Ashira Choir from Israel, delivered the laudation for Baier.
Nominations for the Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize can be made by the mayor and city council factions. This year, Baier was nominated by the CSU and Bayreuther Gemeinschaft city council factions, while Rothenbuecher was awarded the prize following the SPD faction's recommendation. The final decision rests with the city council.
The idea for the renovation proposal for the Birken and Carolinenruhe/Colmdorf castle complexes in Bayreuth was developed by local heritage conservation authorities in collaboration with architects and city planners. A list of all previous awardees of the Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize can be found at www.ehrungen.ourwebsite. The award is worth 2,500 Euros.
The location of the award ceremony rotates among various cultural sites in Bayreuth, reflecting the city's rich cultural heritage. Through her work, Baier has not only contributed to this heritage but also strengthened Bayreuth's ties with Israel. Rothenbuecher's efforts in restoring the city's historic castles have ensured that future generations can appreciate these treasures.
