Assistance for Women Facing Rental Issues: Emergence of 'Housing Conflict Aid' Startup

The city of Gießen has launched a new project aimed at supporting citizens in resolving conflicts with their landlords. Known as "Rental Conflict Help", this initiative is a low-threshold, free service for all citizens of Gießen, offering independent, confidential counseling to those in need.

"Rental Conflict Help" is open to all people seeking support and mediation in existing rental relationships, particularly those with social burdens or language barriers. The project aims to provide additional support to those feeling alone with their rental problems, listening, mediating, and finding solutions together before conflicts escalate.

The project team, consisting of volunteers and the main coordination team, holds monthly meetings to discuss the progress of the project and exchange ideas with network partners. "Rental Conflict Help" distinguishes itself from legal advice and acts as a neutral intermediary for conflict resolution and problem-solving.

Neutral mediation between tenants and landlords is a key service offered by the project. Referral counseling for specific problem areas is also available within the project. The goal of "Rental Conflict Help" is to stabilize rental relationships early on, support people, and refer them to other specialist institutions if necessary.

Consultation hours are held twice weekly, with open consultation hours at Walltorstraße 3. Interested individuals can contact Mareike Bähr from the Department of Social Affairs at 0641 306-2061 or via email at [email protected] for more information.

It is important to note that "Rental Conflict Help" is closely networked with existing counseling offers, municipal institutions, social carriers, and specialist institutions. The organization that offers the service is Mieterschutzverein Gießen e.V., and this service began in the year 2023.

The project continues to be a complementary building block in a comprehensive support network for tenants in Gießen. Volunteers are needed for the project, with a comprehensive introduction and professional guidance provided by the full-time project coordination.

"Rental Conflict Help" is an initiative to improve the living situation of tenants in the city of Gießen. By offering a neutral, solution-oriented platform for conflict resolution and problem-solving, the project aims to help those feeling alone with their rental problems and prevent conflicts from escalating.
