Wanna join the party? Over 250 vessels, including sailing ships, barges, and ocean tugboats, will grace the waters for the 836th Hamburg Harbour Anniversary! Get your spot along the Elbe for the grand parade on Saturday (13.00), and don't miss the opening ceremony (11.00) at the Michel. Organizers anticipate a crowd of over a million visitors!

The three-day shindig is going to be a colorful affair: Tugboats "Elbe" and "Holland" will offer tours, the German Life-Saving Association (DLRG) will celebrate their 100th birthday with a flotilla, and the traditional three-masted ship "Alexander von Humboldt II" will berth at the dock. The maritime party mile brings tasty treats while showcasing harbor life's modern workings.

On Friday, get ready for Nina Chuba's performance at "Harbour pure!" and Lotto King Karl's tribute to "Hamburg, my pearl." The Broadway vibe continues with excerpts from "MJ - The Michael Jackson Musical."

Ready to get your groove on? A floating stage on the Elbe will host Saturday's birthday gala, featuring Johannes Oerding and a dazzling firework display. Between the opening and closing parades and on Sunday, observe the traditional tugboat ballet, accompanied by music from Burgenland, this year's partner region.

Environmentalists call for more focus on sustainability at the Harbour Anniversary, flagging issues like conventional fireworks, air pollution, and waste production. They urge the event to welcome innovative Earth-friendly cruise ships, showcase technology like drones and lasers, and employ reusable tableware.

The Harbour Anniversary honors the beginning of duty-free trade via the Elbe, a right attributed to Emperor Frederick Barbarossa with a charter on May 7, 1189. Hamburg's Minister of Economics, Melanie Leonhard (SPD), says the harbor's prosperity founded the city, and it continues to drive Germany's largest port's economic impact. Time to raise a glass to the ol' Harbour!
