Christmas markets in Munich remain operational past 24th December
Munich, Germany, is set to embrace the festive season once again with a variety of Christmas markets and winter festivals. Here's a rundown of what you can expect this year.
From November 25, 2024, to January 6, 2025, the XXL Feuerzangenbowle will be a highlight at Blumenstraße 22 behind the Schrannenhalle. However, most traditional Christmas markets in Munich will close on Christmas Eve (December 24th) by mid-afternoon and will not reopen after that date.
The Marienplatz Christmas Market, the largest city market, will be open from late November until December 24th, closing by 2 pm on Christmas Eve. The medieval market and others will close before or on December 24th, generally not operating beyond that date.
But fear not, for there are several winter festivals that continue into late December or early January. The Tollwood Winterfestival, for instance, historically runs until December 31st, though its Christmas market stalls close around December 23rd. The festival itself with cultural events remains open through the year-end.

If you're visiting Munich after December 24th, the best option is to look for winter festivals or markets that continue into late December or early January. These won’t be the classic Advent Christmas markets seen before Christmas, but they will offer a festive atmosphere nonetheless.
One such option is the Winter Magic by the Duck Pond, which will be at the Duck Pond, Westpark from November 29, 2024, to January 1, 2025. The event features fire pits, craftsmanship, live music, and a barn tent.
Another noteworthy event is the Sternenflotte market, offering organic mulled wine, handmade treats, and a diverse cultural program in heated indoor tents. The Sternenflotte winter market will be at the Christmas Harbor in Sendling from December 5 to 30, 2024.
The Theresienwiese event will transform into a magical winter landscape during the same period, from November 26 to December 31, 2024, featuring a "Market of Ideas" and various performances.
For those seeking a unique Christmas market experience, the Bogenhausener Christmas Enchantment Forest offers 30 different types of mulled wine, punch, and Feuerzangenbowle, as well as attractions for children such as a miniature railway, carousel, puppet theater, and storyteller.
