Evade the monotony of regular seating and experientially uplevel your 30,000 ft sojourn! Air New Zealand's Skycouch revolutionizes medium to long-haul journeys, swapping cramped seats for your private couch or an extra space between you and your travel buddy. Until now, the AirlineRatings team hadn't had the opportunity to try it, but let me tell you, the Skycouch knocked our socks off!
I won't hold back - the Skycouch is FANTASTIC and worth picking over Premium Economy. This review scores a resounding 10/10, but trust me; there's more!

Ever wondered, "How does it work?"
Upon booking your flight, select the Skycouch option at the seat selection stage. Perfect for solo fliers, couples, or families hankering for added space, the Skycouch occupies an entire row of three seats for around $150 per person. Solo travelers can enjoy a spare seat, while couples and families can create a cozy, cushioned space. Find it hard to beat that value proposition in commercial aviation!
Now, let's delve deeper into the Skycouch product...
Each seat equips a footrest that can be folded upward, transforming your row into a comfy, couch-like bed. Air New Zealand supplies seat extenders, a quilt, large pillows, and blankets for an even cozier touch.

Hats off to Air New Zealand's customer service! Traveling with my family and a restless kiddo, the flight staff outdid themselves—especially on the Auckland to Perth leg. They went out of their way to help, offering additional snacks, serving early, and even promising a cockpit visit if little one managed some shut-eye. It truly made a difference and showcased their dedication.
4.5 / 5
The catering tasted divine, though the evening meal service to Auckland almost seemed humorous—the kids' meal boasted a larger portion than the adult option. Over the past decade, meal sizes have shrunk and simplified. The portion was more than enough on the 5.5-hour overnight flight, but grown men might need another helping. The 6.5-hour flight from Auckland to Perth served both a meal and a snack—quite a relief since meals hardly fill a tray!
5 / 5
Various options abound on board, along with Wi-Fi and in-seat power for your convenience. However, on the overnight flight, there was no in-flight amenity kit, and the kids' activity packs were absent for flights under seven hours. (The crew informed us that these amenities are exclusive to long-haul flights.) For future trips, request kids' headphones as soon as you board.
With Air New Zealand being the sole airline operating the Skycouch, the experience it offers is nothing short of exclusive and momentous. If it's an option on your route, and you have the chance to score a Skycouch—grab it! The ability to stretch out, elevate legs, and sleep like a VIP transforms your flight experience. Whether you're touring solo, snuggling with your loved one, or tending to the needs of your youngsters, the Skycouch delivers comfort beyond compare.
It redefines economy seating, boasting more space, more comfort, and ultimately, more happiness. It's the closest thing to Business Class without the steep price tag and is nothing short of incredible value.
If you're seeking the best way to navigate economy skies, the Skycouch is it! ✈️💙
