Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development in New York: Croatian National Tourism Board Delegates Discuss Advancing Tourism in Croatia

The Lowdown on the 6th ACAP Conference in New York

Last week, the Croatian Tourism bigwigs convened in the Big Apple for the 6th ACAP Conference. The star-studded event brought together an impressive gathering of 300 influential professionals, a majority of thembeing successful Croatians with booming foreign careers and lucrative ventures.

The conference aimed to magnify the best offerings of Croatian tourism, putting Croatia on the global tourism map. The gathering did not limit its discussions to tourism, however, delving into various sectors and domains to facilitate cross-industry collaboration and cooperation.

Kristjan Staničić, the CNTB director, was enthusiastic about the vast potential opportunities that lay ahead for Croatia. He emphasized that the US market was, and remains, the most vital distant market for Croatian tourism, generating the highest tourist turnover.

Nikolina Brnjac, Croatia's Minister of Tourism and Sports, also graced the conference with her presence, delivering a powerful strategic address.

The conference witnessed a partnership between the Croatian Tourist Board and the Association of Croatian-American Professionals (ACAP). This team-up primarily surfaced in the evening program and the panel discussion "Building a Sustainable Tourism Ecosystem."

Leila Krešić-Jurić, the director of CNTB's New York office, moderated the panel discussion. She was joined by Ognjen Bagatin from the Bagatin Polyclinic, Iva Bahunek, the head of the CNTB Office in Los Angeles, Jeana Havidich, the head of the Working Group for Medical Tourism in Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Jan De Jong, co-founder of Webpower Adria, and Antonija Urlić, the director of the Association of Unique Croatian Hotels STORIES.

Highlights from the panel discussions included the worldwide recognition of Croatia as a tourist destination with an exceptionally preserved and rich natural heritage. The activities of STORIES were also extolled as an excellent example of sustainable tourism, showcasing carefully chosen, unique Croatian hotels.

Croatia's appeal to tourists was further validated by the eVisitor system data. So far this year, Americans have made over 135,000 arrivals and nearly half a million overnight stays in Croatia. This represents an impressive growth of 385 percent in arrivals and 211 percent in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.

In another development, business workshops and presentations of the Croatian tourist offer were also held in Chicago as a result of collaboration between the Croatian Tourist Board and Signature Travel Network. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board was also a part of the strategic affair.

This strategic collaboration serves to strengthen the ties between Croatia and the United States, opening doors to prospective partnerships and business opportunities beyond tourism. Leila Krešić-Jurić highlighted the event as a valuable platform for networking between Croatian companies and American investors, resulting in concrete projects.
