Courtroom drama unfolds as giant pumpkin and pigs take center stage in a bizarre legal case
Last Thursday, the city and spa library of Bad Liebenstein was transformed into a whimsical fairy tale land, as author Antje Horn led six elementary school classes on an enchanting journey into the world of make-believe.
The special storytelling session, sponsored by the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, as well as the Friedrich-Bödecker-Circle for Thuringia e. V., was supported by Volker Henning, an acclaimed author who performed a special fairy tale storytelling.
As the children settled in, Antje Horn called out to them, encouraging them to enter this magical realm. With a warm-up exercise that saw their hands transformed into feet or rhythm instruments, the young listeners were prepared for their storytelling adventure.
The children collectively conquered mountains and opened gates into the realm of imagination, as characters and scenes came to life before their eyes. Antje Horn, with her use of humor, subtle wordplay, and expressive gestures, skillfully engaged the young listeners, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all.
Among the tales told were one about an old woman outsmarting hunters with a giant pumpkin and another about a pig demanding a new life from a judge. In one story, a cunning fox on a bicycle ruined the pig's plans, while the children actively participated, thinking, playing, and adding to the tales.
The participating classes were grades 2 and 3 from Schweina Elementary School, and grade 3 from Bad Liebenstein Elementary School. Despite the rain and wind, the second graders from Schweina Elementary School braved the elements to reach the library for the event.
As the session came to a close, the children went home with shining eyes and a desire for more stories. Dreaming of pizza, chocolate ice cream, and soft pillows, they carried the magic of the fairy tale land with them, making it an unforgettable experience for all involved. Everyone agreed that this colorful literary journey was a truly special occasion.
