Discovering the Charm of Pembrokeshire, Wales

Crossing the border into Wales is an enchanting experience, as the air changes, road signs switch to Cymraeg, and a more relaxed atmosphere permeates the landscape. This charming region, particularly Pembrokeshire, offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture.

Pembrokeshire's coastline stretches over 200 miles, featuring sandy dunes, red-hued rocks, and high-drama bluffs. It's a paradise for sunbathing, dolphin-spotting, and exploration of Iron Age and prehistoric sites, such as standing stones, hill forts, and roundhouse remains.

One of the popular spots in these quiet villages is Cafe Môr in Angle, known for its delicious lobster rolls. The region's produce is highly praised, especially its shellfish, a fact attested to by chef Tomos Parry, known for his London restaurants Brat and Mountain. Parry is bringing his restaurants back to Wales for a pop-up at the glamping retreat Fforest.

The local cuisine is not to be overlooked. Welsh Michelin-starred restaurants serve deer from ancient farmland, while cultured butter is made using raw, unpasteurized milk from local cows.

The arts scene in Wales is also thriving. Anya Paintsil, a Welsh Ghanaian textile artist, creates her work in a 200-year-old converted barn in northeast Wales. Paintsil finds the art scene in this region to be supportive and genuine, contrasting her experiences in London.

The growth of Welsh soft power is evident in the rise of new talent in photography, cooking, and literature. Angela Hui, a writer, notes this development, citing Paintsil as an example.

Wales has developed a unique rhythm that resists being influenced by London. Despite the occasional grumbling about the influx of English holidaymakers, the locals in Pembrokeshire are generally open to sharing recommendations with visitors.

The region is also known for its grand vistas, with the city of Wrexham, once a coal-mining stronghold, serving as a testament to its transformation. Wrexham is home to Wrexham AFC, an international football franchise.

Mainstream portrayals of working-class life in Wales often focus on its roughness, but the beauty in Wales is hard-won. This is evident in the mineral-rich seas of Wales, where a seaweed farm exists, and in the grand vistas of Gower and Mount Snowdon.

Even Hollywood has taken notice, with sets being filmed in Cardiff, Wales. The GQ special issue, for instance, features an article on the greatness of Britain, including a section on Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Lastly, Land Rover Discovery is thanked for its involvement in the GQ special issue. The styling, modeling, hair, casting direction, and thanks are credited to specific individuals and brands.

Pembrokeshire, Wales, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Whether you're a foodie, an art lover, or an adventure seeker, this region offers something for everyone. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable journey!
