Delivery Workers on Bicycles En route to Lapland for Santa Delivery
Three German Postal Workers Set off on Epic Bike Journey to Deliver Christmas Wishes to Santa Claus
Three postal workers from St. Nikolaus, Saarland, Germany, have embarked on an extreme bike tour of nearly 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles) to deliver Christmas wish lists and letters addressed to Santa Claus to the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland[1][2][3].
The journey, expected to take about two to three weeks, takes the cyclists through Germany, Denmark, and Sweden before reaching Finland[1][3]. This special expedition is part of a long-standing tradition managed by Deutsche Post volunteers who annually respond to over 30,000 letters from children worldwide sent to the St. Nikolaus post office[1][2][3].
The trip symbolizes both the festive spirit of the holiday season and the magical connection between children's dreams and the tradition of gift-giving[1].
The journey began at the Nikolaus post office in St. Nikolaus, Saarland, where Nikolaus himself handed over a personal letter for Santa Claus[1][3]. The cycling trio, which includes Simone Nehring from the post office in Bremen, Artur Hajduk, and Ralf Schüttler, will travel mainly on country roads[3]. They plan to ride 200 to 250 kilometers per day[3].
Accompanied by a support vehicle carrying clothing, tools, and spare parts, the cycling group will travel with two yellow post bikes and a mountain bike, without electric motors[3]. They will make their first stop in Rüsselsheim[3].
The Saarland Nikolaus is excited about his unusual summer assignment[3]. Along the route, they plan to visit postal branches in Bremen and Hamburg to collect wish lists[3]. After reaching Santa Claus village, they aim to continue on to the North Cape, which is another 700 kilometers[3].
The cycling trio met while on the national postal cycling team[3]. They are also collecting donations for the "Bunter Kreis Hagen" association[3]. This unique, arduous bike delivery mission by German postal elves aims to physically transport letters from a Christmas-themed town in Germany all the way to Santa Claus’s official home in Lapland, Finland[1][2][3].

The extreme bike tour, an integral part of the long-standing tradition managed by Deutsche Post volunteers, also incorporates elements of the participants' lifestyles, as the trio consists of former members of the national postal cycling team. Along the journey, they combine travel through various countries with visits to postal branches, thereby incorporating sports into their adventure.
