In recent days, travelers attempting to leave Belarus for Lithuania and Poland have faced significant delays at the borders.

At the Lithuanian border in "Kamenny Log", the situation has improved somewhat. As of August 2nd, over 2000 vehicles joined, but the number of passenger cars waiting in line at 6 AM was 2600. However, as of mid-August, the wait time to enter Lithuania from Belarus has been around several hours, while the queue time to cross from Belarus into Poland by car can stretch to two or more days, with over a thousand vehicles sometimes waiting in line.

The Lithuanian border guard advises travelers to use alternative crossings like Lazdijai to avoid jams. For trucks, the Medininkai crossing into Lithuania currently has 49 trucks queued, and the crossing into Poland can have over 100 trucks waiting.

The situation at the Polish border is different, with a growing queue to exit, particularly for cars. As of this week, over 2500 vehicles have joined, exceeding the number that joined on August 2nd. At 6 AM, there were 2600 passenger cars waiting in line, but the number of passenger cars at the Lithuanian border in "Kamenny Log" is less than this week's figure.

The length of time spent in line to enter the EU by car is not specified for either border. It's worth noting that waiting in line could take more than three days due to the influx of vehicles.

Regarding Latvia, the Grigorovshchina-Paternieki crossing on the Belarus-Latvia border is reported as the most problem-free among Belarus border crossings. However, queues at Latvia's border may worsen due to anticipated traffic limitations on passenger vehicles. Surprisingly, there are no queues at the Latvian border or at the border in "Beniakony".

Overall, the Lithuanian and Polish borders from Belarus are experiencing heavy congestion, with Poland’s border controls tightened due to secondary migration pressures. Latvia currently has shorter wait times but may see increased queues soon due to new passenger traffic restrictions.

  1. Despite the issues at the Lithuanian and Polish borders, the Grigorovshchina-Paternieki crossing on the Belarus-Latvia border is reported to be the most problem-free, offering an alternative for travelers seeking a different lifestyle, considering the current challenges in car travel.
  2. Amidst the long wait times at the Lithuanian and Polish borders, the Polish border is especially congested for car travelers, making it more appealing for some to reconsider their travel plans, as these delays impact their overall lifestyle and travel experience.
