Dollywood's New $50M Attraction: NightFlight Expedition
Dollywood, the renowned theme park, is expanding its family-friendly Wildwood Grove area with a new attraction, NightFlight Expedition. This ambitious project, currently under construction, is set to be the park's largest investment to date, with over $50 million allocated for its creation.
NightFlight Expedition will be housed in a vast, temperature-controlled building, spanning an area larger than four football fields. This unique feature will minimize weather-related disruptions, ensuring a consistent experience for riders. The ride will use amphibious vehicles that soar almost three stories high on a quarter-mile track, reaching speeds up to 29 miles per hour. These vehicles will interact with immersive multimedia projections, creating a thrilling and visually stunning news adventure.
The ride's innovative design combines elements of a roller coaster, lake voyage, whitewater river ride, and simulated flight. It features a 39-inch minimum height requirement, making it accessible to a wide range of guests. Riders should expect to get wet, as the attraction will use 500,000 gallons of water to create a river effect. Despite its thrilling nature, NightFlight Expedition is less intense than Dollywood's fastest coaster, Lightning Rod.
The fictional backstory of NightFlight Expedition revolves around 'Cora and Jasper Oakley', who lead riders on an extraordinary journey to uncover the mystery of the legendary Secret Lake. This narrative will enhance the immersive news experience for guests.
Dollywood's operator, Herschend Enterprises, has entrusted the design team from Herschend Creative Studio, in partnership with German manufacturer Mack Rides, with the planning and construction of this exciting new attraction.
NightFlight Expedition is set to be a significant addition to Dollywood, offering a unique and thrilling news experience for guests. The park, which was named the best amusement park in the U.S. in 2025 by Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards, continues to invest in innovative attractions.
