Dubai-based airline increases European reach through addition of four new cities to the flight schedule
Dubai-Based Airline Expands European Network, Boosts Connectivity
In a bid to strengthen its position in the European market, flydubai has announced plans to launch direct flights to four new destinations: Chisinau, Iasi, Riga, and Vilnius, starting from September 2025. These additions mark the airline's first foray into the Baltic region and solidify its role in connecting underserved markets.
Beginning in September, direct flights to Chisinau and Iasi in Moldova and Romania respectively will commence. Following this, Riga in Latvia and Vilnius in Lithuania will be added to the airline's European footprint by December 2025. This expansion brings the total number of European destinations in flydubai's network to 35 across 20 countries.
Of particular note is flydubai's debut in the Romanian city of Iasi, making it the first UAE carrier to operate direct flights to Iasi International Airport. The airline has served Romania since 2012, beginning with flights to Bucharest. In addition, these new routes will introduce direct services to Riga International Airport in Latvia and Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania, marking the airline's entry into the Baltic region.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, commented on the expansion, underscoring the strategic importance of these new destinations. Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce, highlighted the benefits for passengers, providing greater access to Dubai and seamless connectivity through flydubai and its Emirates codeshare partnership.
With the addition of these new routes, flydubai now serves over 135 destinations, 75% of which are on routes previously lacking direct connections from Dubai. This expansion not only enhances travel options but also boosts economic and cultural exchange between Dubai and the expanded regions.
In essence, flydubai's strategic expansion into these European cities will enhance its network, boost connectivity, and offer more travel options, further cementing the airline's position as a significant player in the aviation industry.
Flydubai's expansion into four new European destinations (Chisinau, Iasi, Riga, and Vilnius) not only enriches its lifestyle offerings for passengers but also paves the way for increased trade and tourism between these regions and Dubai. Moreover, the new routes in Iasi, Riga, and Vilnius open up opportunities for general news stories about the growth of air travel connections in previously underserved markets.
