Enjoy a Long Weekend Getaway to Embrace Winter at Japan's Largest Ski Resort: SHIGA KOGEN - NAGANO
Get ready to dive into an incredible winter adventure at Japan's largest ski resort, Shiga Kogen, located in the stunning Nagano prefecture! M. Deri Laksamana Putra, a passionate Indonesian living in Tokyo, had the opportunity to visit this picturesque destination as part of a collaboration project between our website and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan.
Nagano - Shiga Kogen is a delightful highland area known for its 18 interconnected ski resorts, accessible with a single lift pass. With over 80 kilometers of ski slopes and 70 lifts, this resort is perfect for both beginners and experts alike. The area boasts consistent great snow conditions in the winter and is also famous for its hot spring (onsen) bathing facilities.
Deri's journey began at the Shiga Palace Hotel, a semi-Japanese style hotel located at the top of the mountain area. Here, he took part in a Snow Monster Night Tour, an amazing experience that involved riding a snowcat pisten bully to the top of Yokoteyama mountain. After exploring the resort, Deri indulged in a 100% natural hot spring bath at the hotel's Hotaru Onsen.
Skiing enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that Shiga-Kogen's ski areas are open from late November to early May and offer 15 lifts and 20 ski slopes, with a variety of difficulty levels. Deri recommend trying the half-day ski-in Yokoteyama ski resort and enjoying a post-ski onsen session to relax the muscles.
For food lovers, Yamanoeki restaurant offers a tasty Mushroom soba, priced between JPY 900 – 1,500, with an amazing view to boot. Sauce katsudon Meiji bower is another great option, where you can try the delicious beef tongue after a day of skiing.
Traveling to Shiga Kogen from Tokyo is effortless. Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagano Station, followed by an express bus directly to Shiga Kogen. This combination ensures a quick and hassle-free journey.
