Experience the Buzz at Banz Monastery: Beer Garden-Inspired Bar Within the Monastery Premises, Offering Popular Brews
Banz Monastery in Lichtenfels District Enriches Gastronomic Offerings
The Banz Monastery in Lichtenfels district has long been a popular destination for both education and leisure. The CSU-affiliated Hanns-Seidel-Foundation, which oversees the monastery, has announced an expansion to its gastronomic offerings.
During the past three seasons, Michael Schulz has been operating a beer garden at the monastery, accommodating up to 100 patrons. Now, the attached inn, "Klosterschenke," will also be part of his operation. Schulz serves as the lessee, with Roland Galle handling the gastronomic operations, according to the foundation.
With the expansion, the Banz Monastery aims to revive the inn culture on the Banzberg. Conference guests, museum visitors, hikers, and tourists now have the option to use the "Klosterschenke" for dining in addition to the beer garden. Markus Ferber, the chairman of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation, noted, "We offer more than just political education at the Banz Monastery."
Welcoming day guests who visit the museum, the monastery church, or the neighboring forest climbing garden, the foundation seeks to create a gastronomical cultural offering for both tourists and locals. Offering both à la carte dining in the garden and the inn, the "Klosterschenke" can accommodate a total of 94 patrons, with the coach house available as an event hall for up to 120 guests for celebrations like weddings, birthdays, or corporate events.
Located centrally at the monastery complex's main portal, adjacent to the museum, the new facility promises a lively summer season for visitors. This upcoming November 21 to 23, the inner courtyard of the monastery will once again host a Christmas market.
Franconia offers numerous outing destinations, events, and outdoor activities during the May 2025 season, including wine festivals, beer hikes, theater, concerts, and medieval festivals. Franconian wine festivals and medieval festivals are among its highlights for wine lovers and history enthusiasts, respectively.
