Gelendzhik Airport, which has been closed since early 2022 due to safety concerns from the military conflict, has now reopened for civilian use as of July 18, 2025. The reopening reflects improved airspace security conditions and aims to support tourism and regional travel in the Krasnodar region despite ongoing military actions nearby.

Key context includes the airport's closure for over three years following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the associated airspace restrictions. The airport's reopening was marked by a ceremonial first flight from Moscow, emphasizing its renewed operational status. Russian authorities have limited operations initially to daytime flights, allowing a gradual resumption with about three flights daily at first.

Red Wings Airline has announced the launch of flights from Kazan to Gelendzhik starting on July 21. The first flight from Gelendzhik to Kazan is scheduled for August 6 at 2:10 PM, with the return flight departing from Kazan at 9:25 AM and arriving in Gelendzhik at 1:10 PM. The ticket price for the return flight from Gelendzhik to Kazan starts at 12,430 rubles.

In addition, Red Wings Airline has launched flights from Yekaterinburg to Gelendzhik, with the first one scheduled for August 8. Ural Airlines has also opened flights from Yekaterinburg to Gelendzhik, with the first one scheduled for August 5. The arrival and departure times for these flights are not specified.

The reopening of Gelendzhik Airport is significant for the resort-heavy Black Sea region, which currently hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists. The airport's reopening is expected to ease travel logistics and potentially increase tourist flow by up to 10-12% in summer 2025, though not to pre-conflict passenger volumes immediately.

It is worth noting that Gelendzhik Airport will not operate international flights. Routes from St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Surgut, Novosibirsk, and Norilsk to Gelendzhik have also been opened. No specific ticket prices are provided for the new flights from Yekaterinburg or these other cities.

The airport resumed operations with a flight from Moscow by Aeroflot on July 18, signaling a move toward normalized civilian air service despite the backdrop of military conflict in the wider area. The airport's reopening is a positive step towards normalcy in the region and a boost for local tourism.
