The Rhine Regional Council has announced its support for a new project at the Zons Cultural Center, which aims to increase public interest in the dialect. The three-year project, funded by the Rhine Regional Council (LVR), will see the digitization and cataloguing of library collections and the creation of a permanent exhibition on "New German Dialect Poetry".

The project will be housed at the International Dialect Archive "Ludwig Soumagne", located within the Zons Cultural Center, which also includes the archive in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and the district museum. The Rhine Regional Council's language department will provide both financial and non-financial support for the new project.

Georg Cornelissen, head of the Department of Everyday Culture and Language at the LVR, expressed his optimism about the potential of the new project, stating that it could bring many new people closer to the dialect. He described the planned exhibition as a "great idea".

After the archive in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss moves into its new building on the site of the former Bürgerhaus, exhibition spaces will be created for the permanent exhibition. The collection in the extension of the archive in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss will be visible during opening hours.

The project also aims to make the libraries accessible to visitors and scientists according to scientific standards. The additional 50,000 € approved for the project will contribute to this goal, as will the 30,000 € per year provided by the LVR for the duration of the project.

The Rhine Regional Council has previously supported the work of the dialect archive, and this new project is an extension of that support. The district museum, with its comprehensive collection of literature, particularly on its main themes, will also play a key role in the project.

However, further details about which institutions are involved in the planned project for cataloguing, consolidating, and making libraries available at the Zons Cultural Center remain unclear. Despite this, the new project is expected to attract more people to the dialect and further the appreciation and understanding of dialect literature.
