Hobby Horse Trend Gallops into Leipzig

A new trend has galloped into Germany, with the establishment of the German Hobby Horse Association (DHHA) two years ago. The hobby horse boom has reached the Leipzig region, and enthusiasts can now try their hand at this unique sport at the annual hobby fair and other local venues in Leipzig.

Hobby Horsing, which mimics equestrian sport using a plush horse head attached to a stick, requires minimal space and has gained popularity among young sporty individuals. The German Hobby Horse Association - Central Germany Regional Branch (GHHA-CGRB), led by a chairperson, was established last year to support and promote this growing trend in the region.

The hobby fair in Leipzig, featuring around 470 exhibitors and 70 clubs and initiatives, offers interested individuals the chance to try Hobby Horse riding. In addition to Hobby Horsing, the fair boasts a diverse range of activities, including board games, crafts, model courses, and a narrow-gauge locomotive. For those eager to learn more, Anja Greiner-Adam, a board member of the Eibenstock Riding and Driving Club 1930 e.V., teaches Hobby Horsing and explains its connection to traditional riding lessons. The club also hosts the annual 'Hobby Cup' competition, where participants are evaluated on body tension, artistic elements, and transitions.

The hobby horse boom shows no signs of slowing down in Germany, with enthusiasts finding new ways to enjoy this unique sport. Whether at the hobby fair in Leipzig, 'Dr. Horse' on the Scheibenholz racecourse, or through lessons offered by local clubs like the Eibenstock Riding and Driving Club 1930 e.V., Hobby Horsing continues to gain traction among those seeking a fun and active pastime.
