In a nod to Olivetti, Ivrea envisions a future that harmoniously blends industry, tourism, and environmental preservation.

The Canavese region, known for its historical association with the Olivetti experience, is embarking on a transformative journey towards sustainable development with a strong social focus. Under the leadership of the Fondazione Canavese2030, the region is aiming for a shared and conscious development model that emphasizes sustainability, social innovation, and tourist relaunch as key growth drivers.

Fabrizio Gea, the president of the Fondazione Canavese2030, has outlined a comprehensive development plan for the Canavese territory. This plan includes 179 projects, 16 macro-projects, and 6 infrastructure projects, all designed to address themes related to impact and inclusion.

One of the foundation's key initiatives is the annual Call for Ideas with schools, which encourages young minds to contribute to the region's development. Last year, the winning project was the Sentiero delle Pietre bianche, a trail project that promotes local heritage and sustainable tourism.

The Fondazione Canavese2030 also organizes an annual Red Guide to the Good Life, a tool that interprets part of the spirit of the work started in the Canavese. The guide includes sessions for Eat, Drink, Sleep, Buy, Artisans, and Products, providing a comprehensive guide to experiencing the region's unique offerings.

The Canavese's benchmark for tourism is the Langhe, a comparable but more popular tourist destination. The ambition is for the Canavese to represent at least 50% of the tourist flow of the Langhe, a goal that would significantly boost the region's economy.

Work has been done in the Canavese on themes such as sport and tourism, using them as drivers of development. The region's strategic approach involves working in a co-design territory perspective, engaging schools, associations, and citizens in the decision-making process.

However, the model of sustainable development in the Canavese has been continually questioned regarding its impact and inclusion. The Fondazione Canavese2030's development path for the Canavese territory is designed to address these concerns, ensuring that the benefits of development are shared equitably among all residents.

Next year, an initiative similar to the Call for Ideas will be launched for associations in the Canavese territory, providing another opportunity for local groups to contribute to the region's development. Between 2026 and 2027, a new co-design initiative will be launched for citizens in the Canavese, further encouraging community involvement in the region's development.

The Implementation Plan for the Canavese sees tourist relaunch as a driver of development for the UNESCO-recognized industrial architecture territory. This plan, along with the ongoing projects and initiatives, indicates a promising future for the Canavese region, one that balances circular economy principles, social innovation, and environmental sustainability to foster economic growth, quality of life, and a renewed tourist appeal.

  1. In the Canavese region's transformative journey, the lifestyle sector isn't overlooked, as the annual Red Guide to the Good Life showcases the region's unique food-and-drink, fashion-and-beauty, and home-and-garden offerings.
  2. As part of the comprehensive development plan, sports infrastructure projects are included, reinforcing the Canavese's focus on sports as a driver of development.
  3. To further promote sustainable living, the Fondazione Canavese2030 will launch an initiative next year for associations, similar to the successful Call for Ideas with schools that fostered the creation of projects like the Sentiero delle Pietre bianche.
  4. Aiming to boost the economy, the Canavese's goal is for at least 50% of the tourist flow to come from the region, emulating the success of the more popular tourist destination, the Langhe.
  5. In addition to emphasizing sustainability and social innovation, the Canavese region's development path also prioritizes budget-travel options for cultural-travel enthusiasts, fostering an inclusive and equitable tourist experience.
