Announcing the Vision & Voices 2025 Photography Conference in Liepāja, Latvia
Get ready for an exciting event that brings together some of the world's most renowned photographers and creative professionals! The international photography conference and open-air workshop, titled "Vision & Voices 2025: Photography for a Connected World," will take place in the historic seaside city of Liepāja, Latvia, on August 29–30, 2025.
The conference is organised by the association Viena Diena.lv, which has been advancing photography in Latvia for many years. The main partners of the event are Balcia, an insurance and technology company, and Liepāja 2027, the foundation responsible for the city's European Capital of Culture program.
On the first day, participants will gather at the Lielais Dzintars concert hall for insightful discussions and masterclasses focusing on photography's role in today's rapidly changing world and the evolving mission of photographers. Speakers include the world-famous photojournalist David Burnett, known for documenting historic events over five decades, alongside internationally acclaimed professionals such as Giuliano Compagno, Dario Veréb, and Alessandro Gruzza. Giuliano Compagno will draw parallels with the spiritual journeys of great minds from around the world, inspired by Latvian poet Imants Ziedonis.
Leading figures in Latvian contemporary photography, Alnis Stakle, a two-time Sony World Photography Award winner, and Baiba Tetere, will also take part in the conference. David Burnett, in his own words, believes that a good photograph is a language without words that either speaks to you or doesn't need an explanation.
The second day of the conference will be filled with a city photo walk in Liepāja, allowing participants to discover lesser-known corners of the city and experiment with new approaches to photography. Practical workshops at Kursa, led by guest speakers, will follow.
