Job fair in Landshut region catering to diversity celebrated as triumphant event
On May 22, 2025, the Inclusive Job Fair took place at the Ergoldinger Town Hall, with over 300 visitors in attendance. The event, organised by Carolin Voelkner (City of Landshut) and Linda Pilz (Landkreis Landshut), aimed to promote inclusive employment in the region.
Landrat Peter Dreier and Mayor Alexander Putz patronised the event, with the latter stating that the Inclusive Job Fair was an important signal for encountering each other on equal terms. Holger Kiesel, Disability Commissioner of the Bavarian State Government, and Karl-Heinz Arians, Ministerial Director and Head of the Department of Inclusion of People with Disabilities at the Bavarian State Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Affairs, were among the speakers at the fair.
In his speech, the Bavarian Disability Commissioner urged exhibiting companies to focus on the person behind the job application, rather than their disability. Holger Kiesel emphasised that every person should be allowed to test their limits and rejected discriminatory statements in job interviews.
Mario Weidisch, chairman of the Disability Council in the district, shared his experiences of facing discriminatory statements during job interviews. A panel discussion moderated by journalist Matthias Keck was part of the event, during which people shared their experiences of working with a disability.
Around 25 companies, authorities, and organizations participated in the fair, with many employers engaging in direct conversations with visitors during the event. Despite the skills shortage, many companies still do not meet the legal quota for employing people with disabilities. Every fourth company obliged to employ people with disabilities does not have any employees with a handicap.
The supporting program at the Inclusive Job Fair included practical lectures on topics such as "special application," "budget for work," and funding opportunities for employers. Landrat Peter Dreier emphasised that the fair demonstrated how inclusion can be achieved in everyday life through concrete offers, personal encounters, and a strong will to break down barriers.
The organizers of the Inclusive Job Fair announced their intention to further develop the platform and establish it permanently if possible. The unemployment rate among people with disabilities remains almost twice as high as the population average, making events like this crucial in promoting equal opportunities in the job market.
