Los Angeles Announces Plush Toy Collection for Distribution of "Kawaii" Dolls to Pediatric Patients at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital

In a heartwarming initiative, the Los Angeles website, in partnership with renowned multi-disciplinary artist Sebastian Masuda, known as the "King of Kawaii," is hosting the first-ever "Yes, KAWAII is Art" Plush Toy Drive. The drive, which runs from May 14, 2024, to July 31, 2024, aims to collect kawaii plushie toys to support the Chase Child Life Program at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.

Toy drives are commonly organised to collect plush toys and other items for children in hospitals, providing comfort, entertainment, and emotional support during their hospital stays. The Chase Child Life Program, designed to support the emotional and psychological well-being of children in the hospital, often relies on donations of toys and other items to help children cope with their hospital experiences.

The "Yes, KAWAII is Art" Plush Toy Drive is a significant event, as it aligns with Masuda's belief in the power of the kawaii movement to help people. Masuda, who began his career in theater and contemporary art in the early 1990s, has made a name for himself in the creative world, from opening the fashion shop 6%DOKIDOKI in 1995 to conducting the "Harajuku Kawaii Experience" world tour from 2009 to 2011. He also served as art director for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's 2011 "PONPONPON" music video, introducing kawaii culture to the world.

The donated plushies can be any size, including pillow pets, stuffed toys that make noise, and huggable plushies. Yuko Kaifu, president of the Los Angeles website, expressed hope that the plushies bring delight to the youngest patients at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.

UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, with its state-of-the-art facility designed to serve children of all ages with sophisticated, compassionate pediatric care, will undoubtedly benefit from this generous gesture. General pediatricians work alongside leading specialists and subspecialists at the hospital, ensuring comprehensive care for each patient.

The plushie toy drive coincides with the "Yes, KAWAII is Art -EXPRESS YOURSELF-" exhibition at Los Angeles, running until November 3, 2024. Our website Los Angeles occupies two floors at Ovation Hollywood and offers a place of new discovery that transcends physical and conceptual boundaries.

Visitors can drop off new and tagged plushie stuffed animals at the Los Angeles website. Masuda works out of both Tokyo and New York, creating works that transcend the boundaries of art, fashion, and entertainment.

This innovative, worldwide project with three hubs - London, Los Angeles, and São Paulo - conceived by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, is a testament to the global impact of kawaii culture and the power of art to bring comfort and joy to those in need.
