Exploring the Philippines' Dive Hotspots: A Guide to Cabilao Island and Dauin

For those seeking an unforgettable diving experience, the Philippines offers a wealth of opportunities. Two standout destinations are Cabilao Island and Dauin, both home to unique marine life and diverse dive sites.

Cabilao Island:

To reach Cabilao Island, you can fly to either Cebu/Mactan International Airport or Tagbilaran domestic airport in Bohol. From there, follow these steps:

  1. Take a private taxi or vehicle to the ferry port (approximately 30 minutes from Cebu, or 1.5 hours from Tagbilaran).
  2. Take a ferry to Tagbilaran if arriving at Cebu first (about 2 hours).
  3. Travel by private vehicle to the ferry port for Cabilao Island (approximately 1.5 hours).
  4. Then take a boat to Cabilao Island.

Once on the island, you can choose to stay at either Sea Explorers Cabilao or Pura Vida Cabilao Resort. Pura Vida, a small, family-run resort, offers sea-view bungalows equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and mosquito nets. Sea Explorers Cabilao, another well-known diving resort, provides scuba diving packages and accommodations.

Diving in Cabilao:

Cabilao is known for its pygmy seahorses, critters, and corals. Dive sites around the island offer a chance to encounter various marine life, including unique species of pygmy seahorses. Special day trips to Balicasag Island, Pangangan Island, and Sandingan are also available.

Dauin:

Dauin, located in the island of Negros, is another must-visit destination for divers. To get there, follow these steps:

  1. Fly to Cebu International Airport.
  2. Travel by car to Liloan, Santander pier, then take a fast ferry to reach Santander Pier to Sibulan, Negros.
  3. From there, take a 1-hour car ride to Pura Vida Beach Resort. Alternatively, you can fly to Dumaguete Airport and take a 1-hour car ride straight to Pura Vida Beach Resort.

Diving in Dauin:

Dauin is famous for world-class muck diving in dark brown sand, offering a chance to spot various marine life such as pygmy seahorses, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, and more. Day trips to Apo Island, Siquijor, and special day trips to Sumilon Island are also available.

Accommodation in Dauin:
