Mendener Kids Celebrate SommerLeseClub 2025 with Duck Hunt, Workshops, and Comic Sketch
The 19th SommerLeseClub at Dorte-Hilleke city library concluded with a flourish at the Old Town Hall. Over 1,000 Mendener schoolchildren participated in the event, which included a duck hunt, creative workshops, and a live comic sketch by Charlotte Hofmann.
The SommerLeseClub saw 330 participants borrow 2,624 books and audiobooks. More than 100 children engaged in 11 creative workshops, collecting stamps along the way. Excerpts from the beautifully designed logbooks are now on display in the children's library.
The main event was a culmination of months of activities. Before the summer holidays, over 1,000 Mendener schoolchildren were informed about the SommerLeseClub. During the closing event, live comic artist Charlotte Hofmann sketched a duck story, adding to the festive atmosphere. The jury, composed of staff from the city library's Summer Reading Club team, had a tough time selecting the most beautiful logbooks due to the high level of creativity. Hermann Josef Schnell designed special reading Oscars for the winning teams.
The 19th SommerLeseClub concluded successfully, with the most creative logbooks awarded during the closing event. The 20th edition of the SommerLeseClub is set to take place in 2026 in the new building of the city library, promising another engaging and creative event.
