Namibia Ends Visa Exemption for 33 Nations, Expands e-Visa List

Namibia has announced significant changes to its visa policy. Effective April 1, 2025, 33 nationalities, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, and Australia, will no longer enjoy visa exemption. Meanwhile, the country is expanding its list of countries eligible for arrival visas, adding 36 new nations and territories, and introducing an administrative fee for manual visa applications at the border.

The Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, and Security has updated the list of countries eligible for electronic visas on arrival. This includes territories like Åland, Andorra, and Anguilla, as well as nations such as Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, and Barbados. Notably, Haiti's ordinary passport holders will be exempt from visa fees. However, citizens of the previously visa-exempt 33 nationalities must now apply for a visa to enter Namibia.

Namibia recommends using the arrival e-Visa system for a smoother entry process. The e-Visa fee varies depending on the region of origin and the traveler's age. The new policy aims to streamline the visa process and enhance security, while also welcoming a broader range of international visitors.

In summary, Namibia has ended visa exemption for 33 countries and expanded its list of countries eligible for arrival visas to include 36 new nations and territories. An administrative fee of 400 Namibian dollars (approx. 20 €) has been introduced for manual visa applications at the border. The changes are part of Namibia's ongoing efforts to balance travel facilitation with enhanced security measures.
