The Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2025 are set to honour exceptional music teachers across the UK, in partnership with the leading music exam board, ABRSM. These prestigious awards, happening next year, offer a unique opportunity to celebrate and reward the dedication, passion, and innovative teaching practices of music educators.

Nominations for these awards are now open, and teachers can be nominated into one of six categories: Primary School Age, Secondary/High School Age, SEND Music Teachers, Visiting Music Teachers, Lifetime Achievement, and Best Music Learning Initiative. A new addition this year is the Lifetime Achievement category, recognising the outstanding careers and lifelong contributions of music educators.

To enter, registration details must be provided during the nomination process, which includes the teacher's name, address, email address, and school affiliation (if applicable). The awards are judged by a panel of experts, including an independent judge, who will review entries based on the teacher's impact, their ability to inspire, and their role model status for great teaching practice.

The six category winners will each receive a share of £20,000 worth of music equipment for their school, generously provided by Viking. The winner for the first five categories will be selected by the panel of judges, while the sixth category will go to a public vote.

To nominate a teacher, it is advisable to check official sources, such as the ABRSM website, for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding eligibility criteria and the nomination process. Typically, nominees should be qualified music teachers with a track record of excellence in teaching music, and they should be involved in innovative or impactful music education projects.

The nomination process usually involves submitting an application or nomination form, which may include a detailed description of the teacher's achievements and contributions to music education, as well as supporting documents such as letters of recommendation or examples of innovative teaching practices.

Ensure you check the submission deadlines for nominations, as these can vary. For the 2025 awards, nominations close on Sunday 20 July 2025. Consent from the nominated teacher is necessary, and past winners have used their prizes to support various music initiatives, such as the Lancashire Youth Brass Band.

The Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2025 promise to be a celebration of the power of music education and the inspiring teachers who make a difference in their students' lives every day. To nominate a teacher, visit the ABRSM website today and help recognise the exceptional work being done in music education across the UK.

Besides showcasing the achievements of exceptional music teachers, the Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2025 also highlight the bidirectional relationship between music education and lifestyle, offering a platform that integrates fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, travel, and music. For instance, nominees could have created innovative, cross-curricular music projects that culminate in fashion shows, themed meals, or travel experiences, underscoring the transformative effects of music education on various aspects of life.
