Luxury River Cruise MV Ganga Vilas Sets Sail in South Asia
The MV Ganga Vilas, a 51-day luxury river cruise, has embarked on its inaugural journey, offering travellers an extensive exploration of South Asia's rich cultural heritage and breathtaking riverine landscapes.
The cruise, which covers 3,200 kilometers via 27 river systems in India and Bangladesh, began its voyage in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, and will conclude in Dibrugarh, Assam, India.
Key destinations on the itinerary include Kolkata, Dhaka, the Sundarbans, and numerous historic and cultural sites in both countries. The cruise will traverse through Bihar (Patna, Barh, Munger), West Bengal (Kolkata, Murshidabad, Matiari), Bangladesh (Dhaka, Barishal, Bagerhat, Sundarbans, etc.), and Assam (ending in Dibrugarh).
The MV Ganga Vilas accommodates approximately 36 passengers in a luxurious setting. The itinerary includes guided visits to religious temples, historic forts, UNESCO World Heritage sites, local villages and markets, and natural reserves like the Sundarbans. Meals and cultural experiences onboard and onshore are arranged daily.
Narendra Modi inaugurated the Camping tent City, which offers lodging facilities opposite to city ghats in Varanasi, prior to the cruise's departure. The suites in this tent city boast soothing interiors and various services such as French terraces, LED TVs, safes, smoke alarms, and convertible beds.
The first trip of the MV Ganga Vilas has 32 travellers from Switzerland. The cruise was conceived to tap the tourism capacity in the region, providing an opportunity for travellers to experience the cultural and natural wonders of India and Bangladesh in a unique and immersive way.
