In the heart of Düsseldorf, the Africa festival is set to take place this Saturday, July 12th, on Nordstraße. The event, initiated and organized by Flemming Zitzmann, co-owner of "Die Kugel - Eismanufaktur", aims to bring people together, encourage exchange, and inspire thought.

The festival serves a noble purpose: to support the construction of a school in Yainkasa Village, Sierra Leone. This project is a testament to Düsseldorf's status as a cosmopolitan, people-friendly, and human-centric city, as emphasized by Mayor Clara Gerlach.

The school in Yainkasa Village currently lacks basic necessities such as electricity, fresh water, sanitary facilities, among other essentials. The living conditions in the village are characterized by extreme poverty, yet the people are described as friendly, close, and helpful.

The idea to take action came from Isaa "Jeff" Kamara, founder of the association Friends for Africa. He explained that school buildings in Sierra Leone do not meet the quality standards of a new school building in Düsseldorf.

The festival is not just about fundraising; it also seeks to advocate for education, a human right and the foundation for a more beautiful coexistence in community. Building a school in Sierra Leone costs approximately 25,000 to 30,000 euros. Funds collected at the festival will be used for the expansion of the school and the construction of a well.

The festival features a lot of art, music, and joy of life, with performances from the gospel choir Dutop and BB Thomaz and Akani. All organizational costs and a small honorarium for the artists were covered by funding from the District Council 1 and the One World Council.

The project to build a school in Yainkasa Village is a grassroots initiative driven by the local residents' desire to improve access to education for their children. It is supported by the associations Enije for Africa and Friends for Africa, and District Mayor Annette Klinke is delighted with the festival as it is an example of people engaging and putting something together for their neighborhood and the people living there.

The children in Yainkasa Village paint pictures similar to those of children in Düsseldorf, with subjects like the sun, landscapes, cars, houses, mom and dad. This simple act of painting reflects the universal dreams and aspirations of children, regardless of their circumstances.

Flemming Zitzmann, the festival organizer, promises that the funds collected will be used effectively for the project. His visit to Sierra Leone last year left him deeply moved by his experiences there, and he is committed to making a difference in the lives of the children in Yainkasa Village.

Join the Africa festival this Saturday to support this worthy cause and be a part of creating a brighter future for the children in Yainkasa Village. Education is the key to a better tomorrow, and together, we can make a difference.
