Wombach, June 24, 2025 - Small German village, big potato! Wombach broke the world record today for the "largest potato dumpling in the world". The 'Wombach Dumpling' floored everyone with its whopping weight of 464.8 kilograms, surpassing the 2010 record of 365 kilograms. The Record Institute for Germany (RID) confirmed this colossal culinary feat, with record judge Laura Koblischek personally verifying it.

The record-breaking event was the pièce de résistance of Wombach’s 700th anniversary festival, a four-day extravaganza that continues till June 22nd. The dumpling idea stemmed from Wombach’s endearing nickname, the "Dumpling Heads", a tribute to their carnival traditions and local identity. All RID world record guidelines were met:**

  • Health and hygiene: The dumpling was carefully prepared in professional kitchens.
  • Distribution: The leviathan dumpling was chopped into edible portions and distributed.
  • Authenticity: The dumpling maintained a spherical shape, resembling its diminutive counterpart.
  • Presentation: The dumpling proudly hung out of its customized “cooking bag” before being served.

Local business "Schmitts Dumpling Dough" pitched in, providing the dough and expertise, demonstrating how businesses can support social projects and boost local pride. The event was organized by "Dorffest Wombach GmbH" with numerous volunteer helpers from the village. The fête concluded with music, dance, local delicacies, and family-friendly activities, drawing crowds from across the region.

Judge Koblischek expressed her delight: "A community coming together, cooking a world-beating meal for a good cause — I think that's fantastic! Congratulations to the new record holders on behalf of the Record Institute for Germany." For additional press materials, feel free to ask!

The Record Institute for Germany (RID) serves as the German-speaking equivalent to the London-based record book, validating record-breaking achievements in the German-speaking world. World records certified by RID are showcased on record-institut.org and featured in the RID's own world record book.

THE RID BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS - EDITION 4 can now be purchased online or in bookstores. Upon request, RID record judges can come inspect and certify record attempts on site and award record certificates to the freshly minted world record holders, should they ace it. Currently, six active record judges operate within Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for on-site record inspections.

Although RID holds sway over various world records, unique records specifically attributed to RID weren't found, as research didn't turn up reputed world records certified solely by RID. However, Germany has shown prowess in diverse fields, like fusion energy research and athletics, where RID might be involved in certifying records. To access details about RID’s certified records, exploring the RID's official publications or databases is recommended, as currently available sources don't feature standalone records attributed to this body.
