Sweden's New App Speeds EES Process for Non-EU Air Travelers

Sweden is set to launch a voluntary mobile app on October 12th to streamline the Entry/Exit System (EES) process for non-EU citizens arriving at major Swedish airports. The app, developed by a team of experienced professionals, aims to save time and reduce delays.

The app allows users to upload a passport photo and take a selfie, bypassing the need for manual fingerprinting and photography at e-gates. It will be available for free download on Google Play and Apple's App Store. Users will have access to a dedicated passport queue at Stockholm Arlanda and potentially Göteborg Landvetter airports, with the service also operational at Stockholm Bromma, Malmö, and Luleå airports, although no dedicated queue will be available at the latter three.

Sweden's implementation of the app is ahead of other Schengen countries due to its lack of e-gates at airports. In the long run, the app is estimated to save about 15 seconds per passenger. The EES is designed to enhance security in the Schengen zone and can be used for law enforcement purposes.

Non-EU citizens resident outside the EU will be required to use the EES app from October 12th. While the app is voluntary, it offers a convenient alternative to the manual EES queue, potentially saving time and reducing delays for travellers.
