Texas Floods Claim 82 Lives, Including 28 Children
Tragedy struck in Texas as devastating flash floods claimed the lives of at least 82 people, with many more still missing. Among the victims were 28 children, mostly young girls, who perished while sleeping in their summer camp cabins. The owner of Camp Mystic, Dick Eastland, 70, lost his life trying to save several young girls from the rising waters.
The Guadalupe River rose an astonishing 26 feet in just 45 minutes, causing catastrophic flash flooding. The sudden surge of water swept away sisters Blair, 13, and Brooke Harber, 11, who were found dead 12 hours later with rosaries and hands locked together. Their grandparents, Mike and Charlene Harber, remain missing. Family members of the missing are gathered at local reunification centers, praying for a miracle.
A father of two also died heroically, saving his family from the flood. Pope Leo XIV has called for prayers for the families affected by this tragedy. In the wake of the disaster, donations are being collected for Catholic Charities USA and local churches to support the affected families.
