Tourist from Germany meets tragic end in the Dolomites mountain range, suffering a fatal fall
In a tragic incident, a German tourist has lost his life while hiking in the Italian Dolomites. The man fell approximately 80 meters off a high trail in the Bosconero group, located south of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The incident was reported by the mountain rescue service and was confirmed by local authorities. The exact circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.
The Bosconero group, known for its stunning peaks, lies in the province of Belluno, Italy. The region, which will host the Winter Olympics next year, is home to several peaks over 2,000 meters high, with the highest being the Sasso de Bosconero at 2,468 meters.
Heavy rains in the area have caused a landslide, damaging several houses but thankfully, no injuries have been reported. The region has since declared a state of emergency.
The tourist's companion, also a German national, alerted the rescue team in the afternoon. The identity, age, and origin of the deceased have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
