Tragic Tourist Bus Accident in Turkey Claims Two Lives and Injures Several

A tragic tourist bus accident in Turkey's Trabzon province has left two Emirati citizens dead and several others injured. The accident occurred near Balık Lake in the Çaykara district, with the bus veering off the road and plunging about 50 meters into a ravine[1][2][3][4].

The deceased were identified as 18-year-old Mariam Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim and her 32-year-old brother Abdulmajid Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim. The injured included three relatives aged 15, 53, and 60 years old, along with the 39-year-old driver, Abdulkadir Boğoçlu[2][3][4].

According to the Trabzon Governor’s Office, the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a turn, causing the crash[1][2]. Both judicial and administrative investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the accident[1].

The UAE expat couple involved in the accident, Abdulmajid Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim and his wife, have three children, including an infant. Unfortunately, the condition of the child is critical, and he is in intensive care, while the father requires urgent surgery[6]. The father-in-law and the husband's younger brother are still receiving treatment in a hospital in Trabzon.

The accident happened on the second day of the family's visit to Turkey. The widow of Emirati citizen Abdulmajid Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim spoke to local news outlet Emarat Al Youm, stating that her husband had called her before the accident and mentioned that the bus driver was driving recklessly[5].

The driver was reportedly involved in a dispute with another driver and overtook at high speed on a dangerous slope, leading to the crash[5]. The Trabzon Governor's Office further stated that the driver lost control of the steering wheel and plunged 50 metres into a ravine while driving a tourist vehicle operated by a private company under EU management[7].

Rescue efforts were extensive as passengers were trapped inside the bus. Emergency services, including gendarmerie, ambulances, and a medical helicopter, responded swiftly to the crash site after calls from tourists and locals[1][2][3][4][5]. The injured were eventually freed and transported to the hospital.

Ibrahim Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim, one of the injured, is currently in intensive care and is only allowed one family visit per day. The exact date of his surgery will depend on the results of ongoing medical tests.

This incident has raised concerns about road safety in the mountainous touristic areas of northern Turkey. The accident occurred near a river alongside Lake Balik in Çaykara, Trabzon, Turkey. Our thoughts are with the families affected by this tragedy.
