Two iconic structures, the towers, are being opened once more.

The Notre-Dame Towers, a symbol of Parisian architecture, are set to open their doors to visitors this Saturday. The towers, standing at a majestic 70 meters high, offer a unique opportunity for sightseers to climb 424 steps for a one-hour walk between heaven and earth.

At the heart of the belfry's framework, the main piece of the route is a massive oak staircase called a double revolution. This masterpiece, 21 meters high, is a result of 10,000 hours of work and 1,200 pieces of wood, as designed in workshops in Normandy.

The double revolution is a true marvel, allowing one person to ascend while another descends, but they are not in the same staircase. This intricate design ensures a smooth flow of visitors as they make their way upwards.

The reassembly of the double revolution was no small feat, achieved by 45 young and passionate carpenters. The average age of these skilled craftsmen is just 26 years old, a testament to the youthful energy that went into creating this beauty.

Édouard Neil, carpenter and director of MDB (Les Métiers du Bois), is proud of training young people capable of producing a masterpiece like the double revolution staircase. He describes it as beautiful, a sentiment echoed by Marie Lavandier, the president of the Centre des monuments nationaux, who emphasises the high demand for visits to the towers.

The adventure ends on the terraces of the towers, where visitors can enjoy an unobstructed sight of the 13-ton bell named Emmanuel. Gargoyles and chimeras can be seen at the top of the towers, adding to the magical atmosphere.

The towers are open seven days a week, with extended hours until 11 pm, making it possible for visitors to experience this historical landmark even after dark. So, if you're planning a visit, remember to book ahead to secure your spot and embark on this unforgettable journey between heaven and earth.
