Wiesn fervor increases as contact remains shaky - "Anticipation mounts"
Munich is gearing up for the world's largest folk festival, Oktoberfest, which will take place from September 20 to October 5. The city has launched a music competition, "A Liad für d'Wiesn", to find the anthem for this year's event. The three winning songs are yet to be announced.
One of the favourites for the Wiesn hit is Oimara, alias Beni Hafner, with his song "Wackelkontakt". The tune has already gained popularity in the ski huts and is expected to be popular in the Wiesn tents as well.
Approximately six million visitors are expected at the Wiesn, and the organisers are making efforts to ensure the event is accessible to all. More streets on the festival grounds will be made barrier-free, and a group from the "Pfennigparade" foundation will test the accessibility offerings at the Oktoberfest.
The "Sky Lift" is dizziness- and barrier-free, with wheelchair access to the gondolas. It takes guests up to 71 meters above the city, offering panoramic views of the festival grounds. Ten fountains with free drinking water have been added to the Oktoberfest grounds to cater to the large crowd.
New attractions this year include a carousel called "Happy Sailor" with 20 rotating gondolas and a children's ride "Die Montgolfiere" featuring a hot air balloon design.
Munich's Economic Affairs and Wiesn chief, Christian Scharpf, stated that they are on schedule for the event. He emphasises the importance of barrier-free access at the Oktoberfest, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities.
The cost of a liter of beer at Oktoberfest increases, ranging from 14.50 to 15.80 euros. Despite the price increase, the spirit of camaraderie and celebration remains at the heart of the event.
As the dates approach, keep an eye on official Oktoberfest websites or related social media channels for updates on the Wiesn Anthem Competition winner and other exciting developments for Oktoberfest 2025.
